How do you write a relation to field of study Sevp?
The written explanation should include the student’s job title, employer name, major area of study, whether full-time or the average hours worked per week, and a brief explanation of how the job is directly related to the student’s degree/major field of study.
All OPT employment must be directly related to the student’s major field of study and commensurate with the degree level. The following types of paid and unpaid experiences are considered valid OPT activities according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and should be reported to the ISSO.
What is the difference between pre-completion OPT and post-completion OPT?
Pre-Completion OPT: Any portion of OPT used before the student’s Program End Date. Post-Completion OPT: Any portion of OPT used after the student’s Program End Date. It must be full-time.
Is Sevp portal mandatory?
The SEVP Portal is optional and not required by federal regulations. Students who choose to use the Portal to report information are still required to report that same information in My OIS.

Are multiple OPT jobs allowed? Multiple post-completion OPT jobs can be carried out once you complete your studies in a college or a university. You may work for more than one employer or job, but all employment must be related to your degree program. The cumulative number of hours should be 20 or more in a week.
Can you do freelance work on OPT?
After the first year of school, you can use OPT in order to perform freelance or self-employment work that is directly related to your field of study. This freelance work counts against your 12 months of allotted OPT time, so it is generally not recommended.
Can I use OPT for internship?
Volunteers or unpaid interns (for standard pre or post-completion OPT): Students may work as volunteers or unpaid interns, where this practice does not violate any labor laws. The work should be at least 20 hours per week for students on post-completion OPT.
Who fills out form i983?
DHS requires that the STEM OPT student and employer work together to complete the Form I-983. Properly completing this form will successfully document the relationship between the STEM OPT opportunity, the academic degree received and the learning objectives of the F-1 student.
